Officer hit directing traffic in front of Buckhead school
A driver was cited Thursday after she hit an officer who was directing traffic in front of Pace Academy in Buckhead, Atlanta police said.
“The officer was attempting to stop several cars on West Paces Ferry Road when one vehicle failed to stop and struck her,” police spokesman Donald Hannah said.
The incident happened about 7:35 a.m. in the 900 block of West Paces Ferry Road.
“The officer was reported to be conscious and breathing at the time of transport,” Hannah said.
She was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition, according to police.
The driver remained on the scene, and received a citation for failure to obey an authorized person directing traffic, Hannah said.
The names of the driver and the injured officer have not been released.
In an email to Pace Academy parents, head of school Fred Assaf said the accident did not involve students, faculty, staff or parents.
“And all members of the Pace community are safe,” Assaf said. “This incident serves as a sober reminder to drive slowly, put down your phones and pay attention to your surroundings, particularly when driving near or on our school campus.”
